Our farm is set at 2000m above sea level making it ideal for training at high altitude, which in turn, may result in better performance. This is especially advantageous in endurance sports like cycling and endurance running.

Dullstroom area has been a popular training destination for local and international sportspeople wishing to prepare and train for coming sports events for several years now.

The town itself has hosted several Olympic elite as well as top Comrade Marathon athletes in the past and is an idyllic little town on the South African highland escarpment with a wide variety of restaurants, shops but most importantly different scenery roads to run on.

The Outpost is situated on one of the most popular training dirt roads, the Machadodorp Road, only 15km out of Dullstroom.

Why Altitude Training?

For athletes from Europe, the area’s high altitude of 2000m above sea level, the approximate same time zone but difference in season and several scenery roads in and around Dullstroom, makes it the ideal area for top athletes to prepare for their athletic season to come.

Altitude training involves exercising in oxygen reduced air for the purpose of improving athletic performance.

Since oxygen serves as the primary source of energy for our cells, exposure to reduced oxygen levels can be very hard to the body initially, but provides the athlete training at high altitude of several benefits. In general it will increase your maximal oxygen intake on VO2 max. The higher your VO2 max, the better your endurance.

The Outpost offers the full package for athletes or any sportsperson serious about their performance to experience quality high altitude training, together with the beauty the area has to offer and makes training a holiday experience.

The farm offers the only 400m grass track in and around Dullstroom. We have a gym with a view, dam to swim if you like to cool down after a training session, sports physiotherapist and Leisure activities like horse riding, game drives and a pool table.
